History of the Summer Universiade in Italy

The II Universiade (II University Games?) took place in Rome, Italy, during the Fascist Regime.

The 5^th edition of the International University Games took place in Turin

The I Summer Universiade took place in Turin, Italy, from August 26 to September 7 1959.

The VI Summer Universiade took place in Turin, Italy, from August 26 to September 6 1970. In 1969, after the city of Lisbon (Portugal) declined to host the edition scheduled for that year, the university games were assigned to Turin  to be held the following year.

The VIII Summer Universiade was held at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, Italy, from September 18 to September 21, 1975.  This edition of the Universiade only featured athletics competitions.

Originally the Universiade was scheduled to take place in in Belgrade on the same year, but after a series of economic problems and diatribes with FISU the event was held in the Yugoslav city November 1974. The Summer Universiade of Rome was therefore a makeshift solution.

The XIX Summer Universiade was assigned to Italy and took place in Sicily, between Catania, Palermo, Messina and Trapani, from August 20 to 31 1997.

The XXX Summer Universiade will take place from July 3 to July 14 2019 in Naples, Italy. Naples was chosen as the host city on February 5, 2016 following the resignation of Brasilia.
